Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory is Williamsburg’s most often selected funeral and cremation provider. Nelsen was the first area funeral home to own and operate its own crematory, having opened our first crematory in 1997. In 2010, we installed Williamsburg’s most environmentally friendly crematory. Our crematory is open to inspection by clients and we regularly conduct educational tours of the facility. Our 10 step Cremation with Confidence™ process, along with our privately owned crematory, assures piece of mind for our cremation clients. Nelsen is the Peninsula’s exclusive provider of Veterans Funeral Care™. We are experts in providing veterans with the services they earned, whether at Arlington or Quantico National Cemeteries or at one of Virginia’s state veteran cemeteries. Blair Nelsen, a retired Air Force pilot, is committed to honoring those who served their country.
Nelsen is Williamsburg’s only family owned and operated funeral home. While other funeral homes have been bought and sold numerous times in the last 20 years, Nelsen has an unbroken history of ownership and operation by the Nelsen family. A fourth generation funeral director, Blair Nelsen is the owner and president of Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory. Other area funeral homes may advertise local ownership, but, according to an article in the Funeral Business Advisor, these funeral homes are actually owned by out of state investors which are “…actively working to purchase additional funeral homes. [The] typical structure is to bring managers in as partners. After the purchase [the investor group] encourages employees to emphasize local ownership.” While advertising local ownership, these investors typically retain majority ownership and decision making authority. At Nelsen, we answer to no out of state investors. As a family business, we answer only to our clients.
Our services are many and varied. Our beautiful facility provides a comforting setting for funeral or memorial services. As many Williamsburg residents have friends and family in other areas of the country, we are proud to offer live or delayed webcasting of funeral services, so that friends and family, wherever they may be, may view the services of their loved one. Whether in our relaxing lounge or our elegant staterooms, Nelsen offers catered receptions for our families, providing another opportunity for friends and family to spend time together and share memories. |
